The best-known subsidy is the SME e-wallet. This makes it possible to save up to 30% on certain training courses and advice, including software development. This subsidy is for SMEs in Flanders and can only be used by certified service providers from the SME e-wallet, such as NYBE.
In addition, the Flemish government also has a grant for international business, which is Flanders Investment & Trade’s “Subsidy for Digital International Commercial Business Communication.” This is intended for the external development and translation of digital international commercial business communications.

Grants for software development

Applying for development project grants
The process of applying for subsidies usually follows a structured process.

Next, you need to prepare and submit the application. Here it is important to have the necessary documentation properly in order.
Once the proposal is submitted, an assessment period follows, during which the grant maker evaluates your application based on predefined criteria.
Upon approval, you will receive the grant according to the agreed conditions, after which you may be required to report the progress and results of the subsidized project. It might be the case with some grants that you receive funds only after you can prove expenses first. It is also possible that you will gradually receive funds based on progress.

As a certified service provider for the SME e-wallet, you can take advantage of the grant at NYBE.
If your project meets the requirements, the grant may be awarded on pre-projects, implementation plans, code reviews and trainings. The government provides support here by subsidizing up to 30%.
This means that SMEs may receive up to a maximum of €7,500 in subsidies per year. For medium-sized enterprises, this means a percentage of 20%, with a maximum of €7,500 per year as well.
Good to know: applications for consulting or training in cybersecurity or energy efficiency receive a higher percentage of support: 45% for small businesses and 35% for medium-sized businesses.
The FIT grant for digital international commercial business communications
To enter the market strongly internationally, it is important to adapt business communication accordingly. This is why Flanders Investment & Trade offers support to Flemish SME’s.
This makes it possible to have websites, web shops, corporate videos and social media developed and translated by external specialists.
The standard fixed amount for this is €3,000. SMEs that have fewer than 4 approved grant applications to FIT since September 1, 2005, are eligible for €4,500.
