Questions about security

How do I protect my computer?

Most computers are almost unprotected by themselves. Thanks to various tools, it is possible to provide additional security for the computer. We are a partner of Panda Security. We assist you for optimal security, so that your data is kept safe.

How do I secure my website?

Does your website report that it has an “unsecured connection”?

This is because you have not yet set up an SSL Certificate on your website. Depending on the hosting provider, the setting up of such a certificate may proceed slightly differently.

Feel free to contact us if you need help with this.

How do I create a secure password?

A secure password is extremely important. But with a name and year of birth alone, safety is still not at its best. That is why NYBE has a free password generator available for you. Check it out and create your password here.

Which Antivirus should I take?

There are many different anti-virus programs, so it is sometimes difficult to know which one is best for your computer and use.

Thanks to our cooperation with Panda Security, you can count on affordable prices and top security. You can contact us not only for the purchase, but also for the installation of this software.

Is an Antivirus Enough?

If you use your computer for private use or if it is rarely used in your job, an Antivirus on its own may be sufficient, provided you maintain the device properly (updates, hard disk clean-ups, backups, etc …)

Is your device of great importance in your work environment, do you use it for formatting and trading invoices, or does it contain data from dozens or even hundreds of customers? Then we strongly recommend expanding your Antivirus with software that prevents infections from, for example, Malware.

Questions about maintenance

Why maintaining equipment important?

Maintaining equipment is essential not only for its lifespan, but also for safety.

An outdated device that is not properly maintained will soon show the following symptoms:

  • slow response time
  • freezing programs or even screen images
  • crashing of programs or even the device
  • shortened battery life
  • slow start-up
  • many popups at startup
  • overflowing hard drive

These are all very unpleasant events, of course, but what can happen behind them is more concerning.

A weakened device gives faster access to viruses, malware and hackers who can steal data from the device. For example, they can obtain bank details, browser history or customer data.

How do I maintain my computer?

Maintaining a computer is not easy when you have less knowledge about hardware and software.

But with a little more information from our team, you can quickly count on an efficient system.

The distinction between hardware and software is the first step.

Both therefore need their own maintenance.

Hardware maintenance includes removing dust from your computer, using the plug minimally to extend battery life, etc …

Under software maintenance you can observe the following tips; a strong antivirus program, routine disk cleanups, backups, etc …

Feel free to contact us for more (and personalized) information about this.

Questions about Computer problems

What to do with a slow computer?

A slow computer can have an infinite number of causes.

You can split this problem into two categories, either network related or a computer problem.

If you are experiencing slowness when browsing the internet, the problem is most likely with your network connection or your network card.

On the other hand, if your computer is slow when using local programs, or even while performing simple tasks in your folders or on your desktop, the problem lies within the computer itself. Consider, for example, a heavy background application or, in worse cases, a defective or overfull hard drive.

Because this is a problem that can have many different causes and is sometimes more difficult to identify yourself, feel free to contact us to take a look and help you further.

What to do with a crashed computer?

When your computer crashes, this can be caused by an overfull hard disk or heavy background applications. Usually you can wait and continue when the computer has processed everything.

To force the closing of a program or browser, you can optionally press the key combination CTRL + ALT + DEL (Windows) and then click Task Manager. Under the first tab you can choose which app you want to close. (Be careful with background apps, never close anything here if unsure.)

If your computer hangs and refuses to respond to whatever you do, this could be a more serious problem.

In both cases it is recommended to do something about this to prevent a possible crash or malfunction. Feel free to contact us if you notice that your computer freezes frequently. We look for the cause and solve it for you.

What to do if my computer does not start?

If your PC does not start up anymore, it can sometimes help to disconnect the power cable (and possibly remove the battery from laptops), wait five minutes and then reconnect everything and try to restart the computer.

If it still does not work, you can try to boot the computer with an operating system installation DVD or USB stick. Here you can then opt for a startup repair.

If this does not work or if you are unsure about this, you can of course contact us and we will be happy to help you.

What to do when my internet is slow?

When your internet is running slow, you can try several things.

First check if you are close enough to the modem or access point if it is a wireless network.

After this you can also check with your own internet provider if there are currently any malfunctions (this can often be online or by telephone or check this website for more channels)

You can also test the speed of your internet via this website, or other similar ones.

What can sometimes also solve slow internet is restarting the router.

Still having problems? Feel free to contact us and we will help you further.

What to do if my internet is not working?

If your internet does not work, this can be due to many things.

First of all, check the internet connections on your computer as well as the cabling. You can also restart your modem. Restarting your computer can also sometimes help.

Ultimately, you can check here whether there are malfunctions with your internet provider.

Still having problems? Don’t hesitate to contact us!

Questions about hardware

Where can I find my computer name and ID?

On Windows 10 you can simply click on the Windows logo at the bottom left with the right mouse button and then click on System.

Here you will find the data of your device.

How do I clean my keyboard?

There are many methods of cleaning your keyboard.

Before using any of the following methods, turn off the laptop or unplug the keyboard cable from the computer.

Hold the laptop’s keyboard upside down and shake it gently to make the largest crumbs and dust particles fall out.

With a soft brush you can go over and between the keys to wipe away dust. Some vacuum cleaners also a special head piece to reach very narrow places.

Then you can clean the keys with a slightly damp microfiber cloth. You can also polish the edges of the keys with a slightly damp cotton swab.

What you can also purchase is a compressed air cleaner for computers.

By the way, did you know that you can usually detach the keys for even more thorough cleaning? You do this by tucking something narrow and thin under the corner of a key and then clicking it loose. Note: be careful with this. If the key does not come off easily, it is best to leave it connected. Does this work? Then don’t forget where your keys are!

How do I clean my screen?

Most supermarkets have (wet) wipes especially for laptop, LED, and computer screens that you can safely use for cleaning your device.

Always use the recommended products and no glass cleaner, soap, or very wet cloths.

Do not forget to switch off your computer or laptop before cleaning it.

Questions about e-mail

What is NYBE doing around emails?

NYBE can assist you in creating and setting up emails. We can also assist you if there are problems with your e-mail address.

Which email providers can NYBE help me with?

E-mail provider is of no importance to us!

E-mails with a domain name extension can also contact us.

What is SMTP / IMAP?

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a protocol for sending e-mails over the Internet.

It works with servers, ports and security certificates. To set up an e-mail address with SMTP, please go below.

It is useful to know that SMTP stands for outgoing e-mail traffic and IMAP for incoming.

The most common port numbers are 587 (with TLS), 465 (with SSL) and 25 (without SSL) for outgoing traffic.

For incoming e-mail traffic, 993 (with SSL) is most commonly used, or 143 (without SSL).

What is the difference between SMTP / IMAP and POP3?

Although both use SMTP for sending emails, there is a big underlying difference between SMTP / IMAP and POP3.

When an email is set up to use POP3, email messages are downloaded from the server, as it were, to display them locally to yourself. This also means that once downloaded and read e-mails are deleted on the server.

You run the risk of losing all your email traffic if, for example, your device crashes because no copies exist on the server.

On the other hand, when using SMTP / IMAP, e-mail messages are always stored on the mail server and you will see a copy locally. If your device should crash, you will always be able to download these emails back from the server.

It is therefore recommended to choose SMTP / IMAP over POP3 if you have this option available.

How do I set up an email via SMTP / IMAP?

We can help you to set up e-mails via SMTP.

Below you will find some more information on how to do it yourself, but of course we are happy to help you if this does not work.

You can usually proceed with this information. Other extensions also have other servers that you should look up or request from us.

The port numbers usually stay the same no matter where.

E-mail with the extension gmail.com

Outgoing Traffic (SMTP):

  • Server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 465 or 587
  • Authentication: Required
  • Security: SSL or TSL

Inbound traffic (IMAP)

  • Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Port: 993
  • Authentication: Required
  • Security: SSL or TSL

E-mail with the domain name as extension*

Outgoing Traffic (SMTP):

  • Server: mail.domainname.be
  • Port: 465 (25 if no SSL or TSL is available)
  • Authentication: preferably activated
  • Security: SSL or TSL

Inbound traffic (IMAP)

  • Server: mail.domainname.be
  • Port: 993
  • Authentication: preferably activated
  • Security: SSL or TSL

* An MX (Mail eXchange) record is required in the DNS setup. A valid SSL certificate is also required on this domain.

Questions about marketing

What is marketing?

Far too often, marketing is seen as advertising and selling. But that’s only part of the marketing. Marketing looks at what the wishes and needs of the customers are. Thanks to an appropriate marketing strategy, this can be anticipated. Ultimately, this will lead to more sales, a good reputation and a lasting relationship with the customer. View more information at www.nybe.be/marketing/.

How do I get more visitors to my website?

By using marketing you can attract more visitors. With online advertisements via Google and social media, you can measure the results perfectly. For example, when people search in Google for “Webdesigner in Hasselt”, we want to be on top. Of course, this also applies to your company. Then when people have visited the website, you can then follow them on the internet with relevant advertisements. These are all ways to boost conversions.

Questions about GDPR

What is GDPR?

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. It’s about the protection of personal data. Sending spam emails to private persons and chasing people on the internet just like that is a thing of the past. Since May 2018, every company is obliged to comply with the rules regarding GDPR. If you do not comply with the rules, you risk (large) fines. Do the GDPR check and read more about it at ww.nybe.be/gdpr-check/.

How do I know if my GDPR is in order?

Take the GDPR test and view more information at https://nybe.be/gdpr-check/.

What do I have to do to be in order according to GDPR legislation?

There are a number of things you must take care of in order to comply with the GDPR. For example, it is important to have a disclaimer, as well as the general terms and conditions and the mention of your company number. View more information at www.nybe.be/gdpr-check/.

Questions about SLA

What does SLA mean?

SLA stands for Service Level Agreement. Every customer of ours has a SLA. By having a SLA you know which service you can expect from us. Do you always wish to be able to reach one of us? Are you open on weekends? Would you like to be able to reach us after hours? Everything is possible. View more information on the SLA page: www.nybe.be/sla/.

Which SLA do I choose?

Every customer falls under an SLA. We have developed nine standard SLAs. Of course it is also possible to request a tailor-made SLA. In consultation with you, we choose the SLA that suits your company. View our standard SLAs at www.nybe.be/sla/. Only logged in customers can view the SLA terms and prices. Are you not yet a customer but would you like to know more about this? Please contact us at hello@nybe.be | 011 58 41 52.

The jargon of websites

What are code and coding?

Code is the combination of text and / or numbers to communicate to the computer what it should perform or show.

There are many different code languages including PHP, Python, Java, C# and so on. These languages all have their own strengths and spellings. Several languages are used in many softwares.

Coding is simply writing code.

What are HTML and CSS?

HTML and CSS go hand-in-hand for creating a website. They are the two basic programming languages for the layout of a web page.

With HTML you build the structure and add content. With CSS you can, for example, adjust the colors or the sizes of texts. Deze tekst werd toegevoegd in HTML, maar de color and thickness doet u in CSS.

What are bugs?

Bugs are errors in software programs that cause the program to fail or even be unusable.

A software will almost always get some bugs during the creation process. Much of coding consists of “debugging,” or detecting and removing bugs. It is a natural and expected trial and error procedure.

What are back-end and front-end?

These two terms are frequently used together.

Back-end means the “back” or “inside” of a website (or application). Here is the data structure, code, folders and storage, and much more. This is the environment in which the developers work while creating a website.

Front-end stands for the “front” or “outside” of the website. This is simply everything that someone sees as a visitor to a website. The page you are looking at now is therefore on the front-end of our website. But this text was written in the back end.

What are the URL and link?

A URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the address with which you can reach the website. Such as https://nybe.be for example.

It consists of a line of text under which the address and all associated data are located.

A link is when a clickable reference is applied to the URL so that you are taken to the URL address with the click of your mouse.

The link of a URL does not have to match the URL address itself. For example, this text will take you to the homepage, even though the URL address is not written out.

What is a domain(name)?

A domain name is similar to the URL but certainly not the same.

A domain contains all kinds of data from (usually) a website or even several websites.

This is still about the name that you will find in any URL address under this domain.

For instance; this page has the URL https://nybe.be/veelstellen-vragen but the domain is nybe.be. So everything that comes after the domain name is a navigation path to individual pages on the domain.

Similarly, we could create a sub-website or sub-domain (this is a kind of website that falls under the domain) for an online store with the URL https://winkel.nybe.be. Here as well as the domain remains nybe.be.

Just as you need HTML and CSS for creating a website, a domain name is required for putting your website online.

What is a hosting(provider)?

A hosting is an online place where you register the domain of your website and store data.

Once a website has been created and a domain name has been purchased for it, it is not yet online.

This requires hosting on which the website can be placed.

The hosting provider is the person or company that owns the hosting and stores, secures and maintains domains and associated data on it.

What is DNS?

So far in this list of website jargon we have built the website with HTML and CSS, bought a domain and then put it on the hosting.

But the internet has no idea that the website already exists, nor where it is located!

DNS domains are referenced and linked in conjunction with IP addresses. Because the DNS combines an IP address with a domain name, the internet will know where to navigate to retrieve all data and then show us the website as internet surfers.

What is SSL?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a protocol that secures data and internet use.

When you use a website as a visitor, every click is communicated to the server on which the hosting and domain of the website is located. This may not sound very unsafe, but it can be when it comes to creating a password or making an online payment, for example.

Data can be intercepted in exchange between website and server with potentially serious consequences.

When a website has a working SSL certificate, you are assured that the communication between website and server is secure. It ensures that all data in the traffic is encrypted.

What is responsive design?

Responsive design (also called Mobile design) is the name for when a website adapts according to the screen size on which it is displayed. A website on a computer nowadays has a completely different layout than it does on a smaller device such as the Smartphone or tablet.

Mobile design is extremely important because more and more people visit websites on their Smartphone. This certainly includes online web shops that often receive more purchases from customers via Smartphone than via a laptop or PC.
